Drug Dealers, Rapists, Sex Offenders and Murderers like Brandin Lee Kasick, when they go on the run they all head to Florida.
Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin said a 26-year-old Allentown man killed Althea Walbert, 82, and her daughter, Jeanette, 59, during a robbery at their Alburtis home.
Brandin Lee Kasick was found Sunday night in Sarasota, Fla., police said, and will be extradited as soon as possible. Breaking with tradition, Martin wasted no time in declaring that he will seek the death penalty. "The Lehigh Valley has had its share of unspeakable crimes," Martin said, "but this is one of worst I have seen."
According to police, the cause of death for both women, Althea Walbert, 82, and her daughter, Jeanette, 59, was sharp-force trauma to the neck. Martin and police declined to say if the women were stabbed, or what sort of instrument was used to kill them. Kasick stole several thousand dollars from the Walberts, police said, who he knew from various jobs he had done at their home, including carpet cleaning between 2005 and 2009.
At the time of the murders, Kasick was unemployed, Martin said, and in the days after March 8 -- the last day the Walberts were seen alive -- he spent thousands on jewelry, a van and later, repairs for the van as he fled south. The Walberts were found dead in their home March 11, police said. Police linked Kasick to the crime through DNA evidence collected at Kasick's former home in Allentown, according to Martin.
