Officer Down: Jaime Padron Killed at AustinTX Walmart, Cop Killer "I'll Be Cappin" Brandon M. Daniel Arrested.

AUSTIN, Texas – A police officer was shot and killed early Friday at a Walmart in Central Texas, and a suspect is in custody, police said. Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said the officer was shot in the neck and died at the scene. The department identified him as Senior Police Officer Jaime Padron and said he had two daughters, ages 10 and six.

The suspect is Brandon Montgomery Daniel, DOB 11/11/1987, who was arrested by Austin police earlier this morning. No other details are available.  Records show that Daniel is from Colorado, and his Facebook page says he attended Colorado State University.  Brandon Montgomery Daniel's Favorite Quotations "I'll be rappin', I'll be cappin', I'll be tappin', I'll be flappin', I'll be happen... ing. Ding, bing, wing. Yo!"

Padron was responding to a call about a drunk man inside the store around 2:30 a.m., Acevedo said. The suspect attacked the officer as soon as he arrived at the store and Padron didn't have a chance to even pull out his own weapon. "The suspect, Brandon M. Daniel, produced a semi-automatic pistol and shot the officer at point blank range," Acevedo said. The wounded officer was able to call for help using his police radio, he added.

"This was a routine call," Acevedo said. "What makes our job deadly is that there is no routine call." Two Walmart employees tackled and held the suspect and locked down the store until another police officer arrived to arrest him. MORE FROM THIS SOURCE.

AUSTIN TX...“It is with a heavy heart that I have to report that we’ve lost a police officer this morning,” police Chief Art Acevedo said during a pre-dawn press conference. Speaking in the parking lot of the Walmart, Acevedo said the officer was shot in the neck at point-blank range and died at the scene.

He described a dramatic scene in which Walmart employees then tackled the suspect, whom he described as an Asian male, and detained him until other officers arrived. “Even in this tragedy, I am heartened by two brave souls who took action,” Acevedo said. The chief said no others were injured in the event.

Police had gotten a 911 call about an intoxicated person inside the store at 2:21 a.m., officials said. The officer arrived about eight minutes later, and the suspect “immediately engaged the officer in a fight,” Acevedo said. The man then shot the officer with a semi-automatic pistol, he said, adding that the officer didn’t have a chance to draw his weapon.
