Serial Killers Perry Smith and Dick Hickock Murdered Entire Families In Cold Blood in Holcomb Kansas and Sarasota Florida During 1959.


 'In Cold Blood' A landmark book about American crime, "In Cold Blood," told of Perry Smith (L) and Dick Hickock (R), ex-convicts who killed four members of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kan., November 15th, 1959.

Six days before Christmas 1959, Cliff and Christine Walker and their two young children, Jimmie and Debbie, were savagely murdered in their rural Osprey home. The case remains unsolved to this day, though detectives are investigating a possible link to the two men responsible for murdering the Clutter family in a rural Kansas home roughly a month before.

In November 1959, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock broke into a remote ranch home in tiny Holcomb, Kan., in search of thousands of dollars they heard a farmer named Herb Clutter kept in his safe. But there was no safe, so Hickock and Smith killed Clutter, his wife and their two kids.

The facts: Investigators confirmed Perry Smith and Dick Hickock were in Pensacola Florida at a Salvation Army on Wednesday December 16th 1959. Multiple witnesses and a receipt with Hickock's name and the date confirmed Hickock and Smith arrived in Tallahassee Thursday December 17th, 1959.

From: Tallahassee, FL To: Sarasota, FL Later that day, December 17th, 1959, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock were spotted at a gas station on the corner of Cattleman and Fruitville Roads in Sarasota Fl, it is 326 miles from Tallahassee to Sarasota Fl. It would have taken Perry Smith and Dick Hickock about 6 six hours to drive from Tallahassee to Sarasota Fl on December 17th, 1959, they would have been in town by late afternoon, sometime around 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Still later the same day, December 17th, 1959, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock were spotted at Al Faige's gas station on Washington Blvd in downtown Sarasota Fl, they were driving a stolen 1956 Chevrolet Bel Aire with Kansas plates.

The facts: Miami deputies learned the two men checked into the Somerset Hotel in Miami hotel on Friday December 18th, 1959.  Hotel staff told Miami deputies the men did pay for five days, but then asked for a refund Saturday morning December 19th, 1959. Hotel staff refused the refund and did not see them again.

Supposedly Perry Smith and Dick Hickock  left Miami early Saturday December 19th, 1959, and headed north.  It is 220 miles from Miami to Sarasota Fl, it would have taken Perry Smith and Dick Hickock about 4 hours to get to Sarasota in 1959. Perry Smith and Dick Hickock were spotted at W.T. Grant Co. Department Store in Sarasota Fl on December 19th, 1959, it would have been sometime around 2:00 pm or 3:00 pm in the afternoon.


On Dec. 19, 1959, the Walkers went shopping for a car in Sarasota. Cliff Walker wanted a 1956 Chevrolet, the same model driven by Smith and Hickock, who were on the run in Florida at the time, in desperate need of money.
Saturday December 19th, 1959, Cliff Walker, his wife and their two small children were murdered in Osprey Fl, just south of Sarasota Fl. The crime scene included a bloody cowboy boot print (Perry Smith wore cowboy boots stuffed with paper), a cigarette wrapper from a brand Cliff Walker didn't smoke, a print from the bathtub faucet handle and seven spent .22-caliber shells from the killer's gun.

 Christmas Eve, December 24th, 1959,  Perry Smith and Dick Hickock were in Louisiana selling two dolls to a minister for $1.50 to buy gas. Smith and Hickock were later arrested in Las Vegas, tried and found guility of the Clutter murders in Kansas and then hung by the neck until dead.
