NY TIMES MAY 1st 2010….A crude car bomb of propane, gasoline and fireworks was discovered in a smoking Nissan Pathfinder (that had been stolen) in the heart of Times Square, just off Broadway on 45th Street, on Saturday evening, prompting the evacuation of thousands of tourists and theatergoers on a warm and busy night. Al-Qaeda wanna-be Faisal Shahzad was arrested and convicted of the bomb plot and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
TIMES SQUARE NYC MARCH 6th, 2008: The feds and the NYPD have offered a $65,000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the bicycle bomber who attacked the Times Square military recruiting center in 2008. In addition to the reward offer, authorities released never-before-seen footage of the bomber taken from surveillance video of the March 6, 2008, attack.
Federal authorities announced today a new push to track down the man or woman who used a bicycle for their getaway when they tried to blow up a military recruiting station in New York's Times Square five years ago, fearing the suspect may be a serial bike bomber. The FBI said they believe the March 6, 2008 blast at the Armed Forces Career Center is likely linked to two earlier blasts at the consulates of foreign nations in New York -- the U.K.'s in 2005 and Mexico's in 2007.
A picture of the blue Ross bicycle that the bomber used to get away before tossing it in a dumpster near Madison Avenue and 38th Street was also released. “Someone, somewhere, knows something about a bomber who’s still on the run,” said FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge George Venizelos. “Today we’re asking for the public’s assistance in finding those responsible and encouraging the public to look closely at these photos and video, which could be the key to breaking the case.”
