NY TIMES CAIRO — American commandos carried out a raid on Saturday in Africa in a powerful flex of military muscle aimed at capturing a fugitive terrorist suspect. American troops assisted by F.B.I. and C.I.A. agents seized a leader of Al Qaeda on the streets of Tripoli, Libya. American forces captured Libyan militant Abu Anas al-Liby who had been indicted in 2000 for his role in the 1998 bombings of the United States embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The militant, born Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai and known by his nom de guerre, Abu Anas al-Liby, had a $5 million bounty on his head; his capture at dawn ended a 15-year manhunt. Abu Anas, the Libyan Qaeda leader, was considered a major prize, and officials said he was alive in United States custody. While the details about his capture were sketchy, an American official said Saturday night that he appeared to have been taken peacefully and that he was “no longer in Libya,” he will be shipped to New York City to face charges of a Federal Grand Jury in the Southern District of New York, see http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/10/05/world/africa/06libya-document.html?_r=0
Anas al-Liby ........Khalid al-Fawwaz
In 1994 Anas al-Liby along with Khalid al-Fawwaz set up a media information office "the London office" to provide cover for Al-Qaeda's military activities to disburse funds and to procure necessary equipment such as satellite phones for the 1998 Embassy bombings in Nairobi Kenya and Dar Es Salaam Tanzania Africa. in the latter part of 1993 Anas al-Liby began visual and photographic surveillance of the Embassy in Nairobi Kenya. From 1995 to 1998 Khalid al-Fawwaz in London provided Osama bin-Laden and al-Qaeda with various means of communication along with a satellite phone, known as the bin-Laden phone.
Al-Qaeda procurement agent Ziyad Khaleel had been roommates with Imam Muneer Arafat during the time period when he was obtaining communication equipment for Osama bin-Laden. Imam Muneer Arafat came to the Islamic Society of Sarasota-Bradenton Mosque as thier ‘holy man” in March of 2000, just a few months before Mohamed Atta and two other 9/11 Hijackers show up in nearby Nokomis Fl in June of 2000. Ziyad Khaleel, also known as Khalil Ziyad, Ziyad Sadaqa, and Ziyad Abdulrahman, was a Palestinian-American al-Qaeda member, based in the United States, primarily in Colorado, Florida, Michigan and Missouri. He had been identified as a “procurement agent” for Osama bin Laden, arranging the purchase and delivery of “computers, satellite telephones, and covert surveillance equipment” for the leadership of al-Qaeda,as well as administering a number of radical Islamic websites as webmaster, including the website of the terrorist group Hamas.Among the cities in which he resided at various times were Denver, Detroit, Columbia and Orlando.
Sarasota Imam Muneer Arafat was soliciting funds for a Muslim terrorist front charity the ” Holy Land Foundation”. Today a Fifth Circuit judicial panel released a highly anticipated opinion affirming the convictions against the five organizers of the former Richardson-based Holy Land Foundation on charges that they conspired to funnel money to the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. In 1991, while living in Denver, Ziyad Khaleel was vice president of the Denver Islamic Society. By 1994 he was residing in Detroit and his name and address were reflected in ledgers taken from the Al Kifah Refugee Center, a financial and strategic arm of al-Qaeda in New York City. Upon moving to Columbia, Missouri, he was known as Ziyad Khaleel, but began using the surname Sadaqa as early as 1996. That year he was a fundraiser, along with Imam Muneer Arafat, and one of eight regional directors of the Islamic African Relief Agency (IARA), which the government later determined was a front for al-Qaeda and Hamas. Late in 1996 he bought a $7,500 INMARSAT satellite telephone at the instruction of senior al-Qaeda lieutenant Khaled al-Fawwaz.
