BRADENTON --On Friday October 31st 2014 Guards from Sarasota Security Patrol were working their last day in Manatee County elementary schools after the Manatee County School District superintendent gave 30 days notice that the contract was being canceled. Come Monday, November 4rd, 2014, 31 of the district's 33 elementary schools will no longer use officers stationed permanently in the schools for an additional layer of security, and it's unclear if or when the Manatee County School Board will take up the issue again.
SARASOTA-- At Sarasota County high and middle schools, the district employs unarmed security monitors in addition to the armed resource officers from local law enforcement agencies. But at the 24 elementary schools, the district eliminated the armed resource officers after the 2007-08 year because of budget cuts and they have no guards of any kind, easy pickins for predators.
Nov 5th, 2014....Sarasota and Manatee County Reject Use of Security Guards in Elementary Schools While Man With Out of County Warrant Roamed Halls Of 4 Sarasota Elementary Schools. From information that I received last weekend, from one of my private investigators, it indicated that a man had been able to gain access to at least 3 Sarasota County elementary schools delivering furniture before he was stopped and question at the 4th school on Thursday October 30th 2014. That man was eventually arrested by the Sarasota County Sheriff Department on an Out of County warrant from Pasco County Fl, at this point the Sarasota County School Board will not identify this man (Lawado Butterfield) or what the warrant was for although they do admit he had "some sex charges". See MySuncoast ABC 7 News today at 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm http://www.mysuncoast.com/. There is now no clear indication that Lawado Butterfield took any photos of the school children with his cellphone but that is his M.O. as his warrant charged him with TRANSMISSION OF MATERIAL HARMFUL TO MINOR BY ELECTRONIC DEVICE OR EQUIPMENT.

The Sarasota County School Board's initial response to questions about a sex offender gaining access to Sarasota elementary schools by ABC News 7 was that no such incident ever took place, they finally responded to ABC News 7 with the following response. "Statement from Sarasota County Schools, 11/5/14: An ABC 7 reporter contacted the Sarasota County Schools Communications Department to say that an individual had told the station about an alleged occurrence at district schools. The person who contacted the station said he heard the information from a district employee. First of all, we encourage anyone to call our Safety and Security Office at 941-966-SAFE if they have any information that may affect the safety of students or staff. As always, people should call 911 in an emergency. The information provided to ABC 7, while inconsistent in some details, may be related to an incident that occurred on October 30. As part of a delivery crew, an employee of a company was asked to present identification at one of our schools and chose to leave the school instead.
The School Resource Officer reported the incident and the person was arrested near the campus, based on an outstanding warrant from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. The person had been charged with, but not convicted of, lewd or lascivious conduct in Pasco County. We have reminded staff at the three other schools that received deliveries that day from the same crew to check the identification of all visitors. We have checked surveillance video from all four schools. The person in question did not have any contact with students, even from a distance, at any time. The safety of our students is our number one priority. Again, we urge anyone with information or suspicions of anything or anyone who may pose a safety concern to call us at 941-966-SAFE. Thank you."
