SARASOTA - After spotting Darryl Williams, (first on foot on MLK) — whom police knew had an outstanding warrant — Williams got in a friend's vehicle in Newtown, Sarasota Police officers followed and later initiated a traffic stop on 29th Street when backup officers arrived.

The vehicle was stopped on 29th Street near the intersection with Osprey Avenue. Officers approached the driver and passenger sides, notifying Williams, 28, who was sitting in the passenger seat that he was going to be arrested on the warrant for armed robbery (violent crime). Williams, who said he was unfamiliar with a warrant for his arrest, (what?), refused to step out of the vehicle, according to the Sarasota Police Department.  On Thursday, May 14th, 2015, officers attempted to pull Williams from the vehicle, according to an arrest report and witnesses. When that didn't work — and Williams continued to refuse to step out of the vehicle — Officer Andrew Combs deployed his Taser toward Williams' chest, an arrest report states. Apparently unfazed, Williams allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and was restrained by other officers. Both police and witnesses detail a struggle between Williams and several officers. Unable to take Williams to the ground, officers reported tasing and then drive-stunning Williams. Three officers made contact with the Taser wires, causing them to lose their grip on Williams. Williams allegedly tried to run, according to police.
