LA TIMES....A federal grand jury has indicted six foreign nationals, alleging they ran an elaborate money-laundering operation that scammed hundreds of customers out of more than $4 million in fake Internet car sales on reputable websites. The 24-count indictment accuses the four men and two women of offering vehicles for sale on EBay Motors, Auto Trader, Yahoo Auto, Edmunds.com, Craigslist and other sites. They then collected electronic payments, siphoning the money to Europe, and never delivered the customers a car, the indictment says.

If convicted, the six defendants -- from Germany, Russia, Romania and Latvia -- could each face hundreds of years in prison, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney's office. “This case demonstrates our ability to track down even the most sophisticated fraud artist who attempted to hide behind false identities and the perceived anonymity of the Internet,” said Los Angeles-based U.S. Atty. André Birotte Jr.

Authorities say the leaders of the scheme was Corneliu Stefan Weikum, 37, a Romanian national, and Yulia Mishina-Heffron, 23, a native of Yekaterinburg, Russia. Both are in federal custody in Nevada on charges related to bulk cash smuggling. Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office, said that although the agency has seen laundering schemes of larger scope, few have been as sophisticated.

Mrozek said the defendants opened at least 110 bank accounts, provided fake invoice, and hacked into websites to change contact information from actual sellers so that vehicle identification numbers would match up. “That gave them an air of legitimacy,” Mrozek said. “It was large, but we have seen larger. FOX NEWS NEW YORK – Federal authorities blamed Lebanese financial institutions Thursday for wiring more than $300 million into the United States in a money-laundering scheme they said used the U.S. financial system to benefit the militant group Hezbollah.

The U.S. government said in the lawsuit filed in a Manhattan federal court that it seeks nearly a half-billion dollars in money-laundering penalties from some Lebanese financial entities, 30 U.S. car buyers and a U.S. shipping company. It also said it’s entitled to claim their assets as forfeitable under U.S. money-laundering laws.

Prosecutors said the $300 million was wired from Lebanon to the United States and used to buy used cars and ship them to West Africa. They said Hezbollah money-laundering channels were used to ship proceeds from the car sales and narcotics trafficking back to Lebanon.

In connection with the filing of the complaint, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York submitted an application for a restraining order that would prohibit the transfer, sale, or dissipation of the assets of approximately 30 U.S. car buyers (USED CAR DEALERS) and a U.S. shipping company and related entities, and requiring these U.S. car buyers (USED CAR DEALERS) to provide an accounting of their assets.

The accusations came two days after an indictment in federal court in Virginia accused fugitive Ayman Joumaa of leading a drug conspiracy that provided income for Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group that the U.S. has branded a terrorist organization.

From approximately Jan. 1, 2007, to early 2011, at least $329 million was transferred by wire from LCB, the Hassan Ayash Exchange Company, the Ellissa Exchange Company and other Lebanese financial institutions, including Middle East and Africa Bank, the Federal Bank of Lebanon and BLOM Bank, to the United States for the purchase and shipment of used cars.

Liege killer Nordine Amrani murdered a cleaning lady in his rented flat before heading off on a bloodthirsty rampage in the centre of the Belgian city, it emerged today. UK NEWS..Nordine Amrani, the lone gunman who died after killing SIX people and injuring scores in an attack in a crowded Belgian square on Tuesday, had a long criminal record. The 33-year-old Amrani was well known to the police before he went on the rampage in the eastern Belgian city of Liege, opening fire on a square packed with children and Christmas shoppers.

He had previously been convicted for drug dealing and illegal arms possession, as well as for holding stolen goods and other crimes, said Daniele Reynders, the public prosecutor for Liege. In September 2008 he was thrown behind bars for 58 months when police uncovered a weapons arsenal in his home. They found 10 firearms and 9,500 gun parts along with 2,800 cannabis plants, but a prison official said Amrani was granted early release last year.

Charles Manson is a convicted serial killer who has become an icon of evil. In the late 1960s, Manson founded a hippie cult group known as "the Family" whom he manipulated into brutally killing others on his behalf.

Charles Manson told four of his followers to go to 10050 Cielo Drive in Los Angeles and kill the people inside. This house once belonged to Terry Melcher, the man who had not helped Manson with his music career. However, Melcher no longer lived there; actress Sharon Tate and her husband, director Roman Polanski, had rented the house. On August 9, 1969, four of Manson's followers brutally murdered Tate, her unborn baby, and four others who were visiting her (Polanski was in Europe for work). The following night, Manson's followers brutally killed Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in their home.

It took the police several months to determine who was responsible. In December 1969, Manson and several of his followers were arrested. The trial began on July 24, 1970. On January 25, Manson was found guilty of first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. On March 29, 1971, Manson was sentenced to death.

Paramedics took the 20-year-old man and 19-year-old man from Sarasota to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton and the18-year-old Bradenton man to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. All of the victims were reported to be seriously injured.

Posted: Saturday, December 10..... Rev Ian Garancheski was shocked to hear the news coming out of Los Angeles about his friend Tyler Brehm.

"It's just crazy," the Carlisle man said tonight. "This does not sound like anything he would do." Yet one look at the Los Angeles Times photograph confirmed for Garancheski that the mortally wounded gunman was Brehm, a 2004 graduate of Carlisle Area High School.

The online image depicts officers advancing on Brehm Friday at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood. Police say the 26-year-old man walked down the middle of a street, firing on passing cars with no clear target until police shot and killed him, the Associated Press reported.

The Times reported Brehm's ex-girlfriend, Alicia Alligood, 24, told KTLA-TV Channel 5 that she and Brehm dated for four years before breaking up this month. KTLA reported that Brehm's Facebook page revealed he ended a relationship four days ago.

"I knew they were in love, but I didn't know they had broken up," Garancheski said. He identified Alligood as Brehm's fiancee and explained how a little over a year ago the couple moved to California where Alligood was doing some modeling.

Female Body Found in Bledsoe Cemetery on Harness Rd in Dyersburg TN Could be Karen Swift, Cops Have No Suspects.

DYER COUNTY, TN - (WMC-TV) - Dyer County sheriff's deputies, the TBI, and the Attorney General are investigating a body found in rural Dyer County Saturday afternoon.

Police blocked off a large portion of Harness Road near Highway 78 for most of Saturday afternoon and night. That is where they found a decomposed body near the home of missing Dyer County mother Karen Swift.

Many residents were left wondering what was going on. "I heard Karen Swift was found at the graveyard up here on Bledsoe," said resident Madeline Mann.

Mann said she has followed the case of missing 44-year-old Swift from the beginning. "Whoever done it is sick," said Mann. "You shouldn't do that to someone."

"WEST SIDE CRIPS" L.A.....Crip activity started on high school campuses like Freemont High. Feemont had the "East side "Crips"", on the other side of the 110 Harbor Freeway were the "West Side Crips"" and in Compton, the "Compton "Crips"". Several existing gangs incorporated the Crip name into their gang set, for example the the "Main Street Gangsters" became the "Main Street "Crips"". Other sets included "Kitchen "Crips"", "5 Deuce "Crips"" and the "Rolling 20 "Crips"".

Although these gangs adopted the Crip name, some remained independent and maintained their own leadership and members, because of this, Crip sets were well known for fighting each other. On Jan. 1, 2008, Yaser Said brutally murdered teenaged sisters Sarah and Amina Said. Police say Yaser Said shot the girls to death in the back his taxi cab in a "Honor Killing" and then fled Texas.

The murder shocked their hometown of Lewisville, Texas. But when police revealed the identity of the suspected killer, it shocked the nation. Police have charged the girls' father -- Yaser Said -- with capital murder as well as unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

In 1998, the girls filed a police report, alleging that their father sexually abused them, but they later recanted the story. However, they did confess to a few friends that the abuse continued. "He treats me like a whore," Sarah Said wrote in an instant message conversation wither her friend, Zohair Zaidi.

Yaser Abdel Said is wanted by the FBI for murder. On January 1, 2008, Said took his two teenaged daughters for a ride in his taxi cab, under the guise of taking them to get something to eat. He drove them to Irving, Texas, where he allegedly shot both girls to death. They died of multiple gunshot wounds. Said may have fled to New York or Egypt.

On January 2, 2008, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Yaser Abdel Said, in Dallas County, Dallas, Texas, on charges of Capital Murder-Multiple. Witness in Murder of Sarasota Bus Driver James Brotherton Waits 12 Days to Turn in Shooter Charles L. Hill jr, Witness Drove The Getaway Car.

Witness my ass, this "witness" drove the getaway car on November 22nd with dirtbag shooter Charles Lee Hill in the front seat, Charles Hill told the "witness" that he had just killed Sarasota bus driver James Brotherton, the witness did not call the cops until Friday December 2nd, that's 12 full days later, NO SNITCHIN IN THE WHITE TRASH HOOD."

The witness, who was waiting in Boar's Head Lounge in Gulf Gate, told the sheriff's office he saw a car looking like Brotherton's being driven by Hill, who did not stop. Just after midnight on Nov. 22, Charles L. Hill jr, (his photo above) contacted the witness and asked to be picked up on U.S. 41, just north of Stickney Point Road. When the witness picked Hill back up, Hill told him, “He started mouthing off to me and would not get in the trunk so I shot him,”

Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Charles L. Hill Jr., of the 4100 block of Westminster Drive, as he left a shopping center. Hill is charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond. A witness told the sheriff’s office Hill asked him for a ride to Gulf Gate Drive and Gateway Avenue on the night of the murder in the Gulf Gate Bar area, where Brotherton was later shot, because he needed to see someone who owed him money.

Why did the ”witness”, who is actually an accessory after the fact in driving the getaway car, wait from November 22nd, the day he knew Charles Hill jr had killed Bus Driver James Brotherton until December 2nd to contact the Sarasota Sheriff's Dept.?

Police believe she is a victim of foul play.

SARASOTA HERALD TRIBUNE.... - Prosecutors still want the death penalty for Delmer Smith, the man accused in a rash of violent home invasions in 2009 that included rapes and the murder of a Manatee County doctor's wife. But first they want to make sure Smith never walks free again.

Rather than wait for the capital murder trial scheduled in March, prosecutors will first try Smith, 40, in Sarasota County next week on one of the home invasion cases where the charge may be less serious but the evidence is strongest.

Authorities say Smith's DNA was found in the woman's house, and detectives found her stolen property among Smith's possessions — including a firearm and the woman's stolen laptop that Smith's girlfriend was using to work as a disc jockey.

The case is not the most serious or violent of those Smith is accused of. But the case provides prosecutors a chance to first convict Smith in a case where he would automatically get the maximum sentence — life in prison — because of his prior violent record. Prosecutors are not offering a plea deal.

And if they win a conviction, prosecutors plan to use the home invasion robberies as "aggravating factors" in the murder case, creating a stronger argument why Smith would deserve the ultimate penalty, DEATH!

Michelle Parker went missing on Thursday November 17th, 2011 from the southern part of Orlando and there are some things that make no sense in underworld thug life of Florida if she had been car-jacked.

1). Michelle Parker's 2008 black Hummer H3 was found the next day, Friday November 18th, near the Mall at Millenia, about eight miles from the Waterford Lakes area, the "Glow" vinyl letters (see above) had been scrapped off.

2). When Parker's brother Dustin texted Parker to ask where she was on November 17th, he got an immediate response. It was one word: "Waterford (shopping mall)." This message triggered a red flag for Launer. "She would never have texted back 'Waterford.' Her texts are a book. In every text that she would send, she would have xo's, smiley faces, hearts," Launer said. "I personally do not think that was from her, not at all for one second, because she wouldn't have said that.

For those of you who are not familiar with what a Hummer H3 looks like, just think of a mini tank made road ready, the Hummer H3 is a very large vehicle that stands out in a crowd, you can spot one in a mall parking lot in about 2 seconds. So why would a car-jacker (who just happens to have a razor scraper in his pocket) take the time to remove the vinyl letters on Michelle Parker's Hummer and increase his exposure time.

Jose Pimentel was within an hour of finishing a powerful pipe bomb when the NYPD busted him as he worked at a Harlem apartment of a police informant at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Thousands of people have helped with the search for Lauren Spierer, putting up posters and searching nearly every inch of Bloomington. Recently, an anonymous letter was sent to Spierer's parents, criticizing the poster of their daughter as littering up the town.

"It is kind of hard to understand how a person could tear down posters of a missing person when, you know, this person has a family that is searching for them. How can you be heartless enough to tear down those posters?" said volunteer Joe Bailey.

During the past five months, thousands of posters with Spierer's picture, detailed information on where she was last seen and a police phone number have been placed all over Bloomington. Recently, hundreds of the posters have been taken down, followed by the letter to the missing IU junior's parents, critical of the search effort and the posters. "That is what I said one time. For every poster they take down, there is 5-10 more that will put it back up. Take 'em down and we will put them right back up," said volunteer Maryanne Ryan.

ATLANTA—Frederick Thomas, 73, of Cleveland, Ga.; Dan Roberts, 67, of Toccoa, Ga.; Ray H. Adams, 65, of Toccoa; and Samuel J. Crump, 68, of Toccoa, were arrested today relating to plans to obtain an unregistered explosive device and silencer and to manufacture the biological toxin ricin for use in attacks against other U.S. citizens and government personnel and officials.

RICIN Effects and symptoms: As little as a thousandth of a gram can kill an adult. It can be deadly if eaten, inhaled or injected. Ricin poisoning will create flu-like symptoms within a few hours, including fever, vomiting and coughing. Ultimately it can cause the lungs, liver, kidneys and immune system to fail. Death can occur within three days. Ricin poisoning is not infectious. Appearance: Ricin can be extracted from the beans of the castor plant (see image B) and can take on a liquid, crystal or powder form. There is no known antidote.

U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia Sally Quillian Yates said, “These defendants, who are alleged to be part of a fringe militia group, are charged with planning attacks against their own fellow citizens and government. To carry out their agenda, two of the defendants allegedly purchased purported explosives and a silencer, while the other two defendants took steps to attempt to produce a deadly biological toxin. While many are focused on the threat posed by international violent extremists, this case demonstrates that we must also remain vigilant in protecting our country from citizens within our own borders who threaten our safety and security.”

FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Brian D. Lamkin said of today’s arrests, “The FBI will act swiftly within its authority when any group or individual seeks to advance its rhetoric or ideology through force or violence. In this matter, the FBI’s Atlanta Division Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) was well positioned to address this investigation and to prevent harm to the general public.”

According to the criminal complaints, federal search warrants and documents in the public record, Thomas, Roberts, Crump, Adams and others were members of a militia organization and began participating in clandestine meetings of a fringe “covert” operations team starting in approximately March 2011. During these meetings, the complaints charge that the men discussed multiple criminal activities, ranging from murder; theft; manufacturing and using toxic agents; and assassinations in an effort to undermine federal and state government and to advance their interests.

In March and April 2011, Thomas, Roberts, Adams and others attended meetings at the Waffle House Toccoa, Georgia where participants discussed targeting various government officials, including employees of federal agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service. These meetings also were monitored by FBI agents through the attendance of a confidential source, who recorded the meetings and provided the information to the FBI.

FEDERAL INDICTMENT....."On 09/17/2011, CHS1 consensually recorded a meeting with ROBERTS at a Waffle House in Toccoa, Georgia. ROBERTS and CHS1 drove separately to the residence of ADAMS located at 558 Lakeside Road, Toccoa, Georgia. Samuel CRUMP arrived about 1 1/2 hours later. ADAMS told everyone he was a retired United States Department of Agriculture employee. ADAMS showed the others plaques from his career regarding his certifications and training and advised that he had worked in the horticulture field. When ROBERTS and ADAMS walked off, CHSI asked CRUMP about a Center for sease Control email address from one of CRUMP I S previous e-mails to CHSI. CRUMP advised he previously had worked at the CDC and that he knew people everywhere. CHSI then said to CRUMP, "The stuff that, um, Dan (ROBERTS) said you can make (reference to ricin), you still make that?" CRUMP replied, "Yea."....THOMAS talked about the need to take action against the federal government, to include assassinating government officials. THOMAS later asked if the other members were "committed to taking action" against the government, and ADAMS stated, "I am."

When you live in a town with 9,000 people, like Toccoa GA, for an extended period of time you tend to know just about everyone. The four alleged members of a Georgia militia group were arrested yesterday relating to their alleged plot to kill numerous government officials. According to the complaint, one of the arrested repeatedly cited as the source of their plan the novel Absolved, authored by Fox News expert Mike Vanderboegh and Tea Party member, the former militia member famous for urging his blog readers to hurl bricks through the windows of Democratic offices. Michael Vanderboegh, the Tea Party leader and former militiaman called for an armed march on Washington for April 19, and who urged people to break Democrat party office windows, is on government disability!

During the meetings, the complaints allege that Thomas, Roberts and others discussed the need to obtain unregistered silencers and explosive devices for use in attacks against federal government buildings and employees, as well as against local police. Thomas, Roberts and others also discussed the use of the biological toxin that can kill individuals in small doses. The participants acknowledged that these actions would constitute murder but reasoned that the actions were necessary in accordance with their ideology based on the online novel Absolved written by extremist right wing blogger Mike Vanderboegh, what a jackass.

In May and June 2011, Thomas and Roberts met with an undercover agent purporting to be a seller of unregistered silencers and explosive devices. According to the complaints, Thomas and Roberts allegedly agreed to purchase a silencer and an unregistered explosive device and discussed using the silencers and explosive devices in attacks against federal buildings. In furtherance of this plan, Thomas conducted surveillance of federal buildings in Atlanta and discussed with the source the possibility of attacking the federal buildings using silencers and explosive devices, as punishment for what Thomas deemed to be “treasonous” activities.

Thomas also allegedly stated that he believed that these actions needed to be undertaken against both federal and state government officials, and advised that the group would need a great deal of explosives to accomplish its mission.

From June through November 2011, Thomas and Roberts met with the undercover agent and negotiated the purchase of a silencer for a rifle and conversion parts to make a fully automatic rifle, as well as explosives. The complaints allege that Thomas confirmed to the agent that he planned to use the silencer that he was purchasing, and described how he would clean the rifle and use rubber gloves when he handled it so he wouldn’t leave his fingerprints on it during its use.

Ultimately, Thomas agreed to purchase the silencer and conversion parts in exchange for providing the undercover agent with another gun owned by Thomas, while Thomas and Roberts allegedly agreed to split the $1,000 cost for the explosives. Thomas and Roberts later expressed concerns that the undercover agent was a “cop,” but wanted to go forward with the transaction anyway.

The complaints charge that during the investigation of Thomas and Roberts, Roberts described another individual named “Sammy” who, according to Roberts, had manufactured the biological toxin, ricin, and had access to the beans used to make ricin.

During one of the group’s meetings in September, which was recorded by the confidential source, Crump arrived and said that he would like to make 10 pounds of ricin and disperse it in various United States cities, including Atlanta. Crump described a scenario for dispersing the ricin in Atlanta in which the toxin would be blown from a car traveling on the interstates. Crump allegedly also said that he possessed the ingredient used to make the toxin and cautioned the source about the dangers of handling it.

The complaints allege that in October 2011, Crump described to the source the process to manufacture ricin and advised that the materials should be purchased at different locations far from where he lived. Crump again discussed various methods of and locations to disperse ricin, and told the source that the toxin is deadly if the powder comes into contact with a person’s skin or lungs.

During another meeting in October, Adams allegedly provided a sample to Crump of the beans used to manufacture ricin from a storage container of the beans contained at his residence in Stephens County, Georgia, and Crump in turn provided the sample to the source. During meetings on Oct. 29, 2011, Crump allegedly told the source that he was going to shell the beans that week, and Adams explained to the source how to manufacture ricin, showing the source a formula used to make ricin and identifying the ways he planned to obtain the ingredients to do so.

FBI agents arrested all four defendants today without incident and executed search warrants at the residences of the four defendants. The defendants are expected to make an initial appearance on the charges before U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan S. Cole Wednesday.

The information provided by the source and the undercover agent allowed the agents to disrupt the defendants’ plans before they were in a position to place citizens in danger of attacks using the weapons, explosives, or a biological toxin.

This case is being investigated by the JTTF, which includes agents of the FBI, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. Assistance in this case has been provided by law enforcement agencies from Habersham County and Stephens County, Ga., and the District Attorney’s Office for the Mountain Judicial Circuit. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Brown is prosecuting the case.

THE FLORIDA INDEPENDENT....Representatives from the offices of Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and Gov. Rick Scott report that neither will be attending the Florida Tea Party Convention scheduled for this weekend, despite their inclusion on the event’s agenda.

Both are included as speakers on the current TEA PARTY convention agenda, along with a slew of right-wing activists and speakers. Alex Burgos, Rubio’s communications director, tells The Florida Independent that the senator will not be attending the convention in Daytona Beach.

Scott’s scheduling office also says that “at this time” the event is not on the governor’s “official schedule.” The event will feature speakers such as former Christian Coalition director Ralph Reed, anti-Islam blogger Pam Geller and G. Edward Griffin. Griffin is an anti-Federal Reserve, anti-United Nations and anti-communist conspiracy theorist who describes himself as a “life member” of the John Birch Society — a historically infamous anti-communist group.

Pamela Geller is best known for her blog Atlas Shrugs, which has been described by The New York Times as a “site that attacks Islam with a rhetoric venomous enough that PayPal at one point branded it a hate site.” The attendance of Geller, and other anti-Islam activists, caught the attention of the Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL).

The group sent out a press release last week thanking Rubio and Scott “for declining to speak at next week’s Florida Tea Party convention.” The group says the event “features a presentation by anti-Islam extremist Pamela Geller and another Islamophobe.”

According to the release: Along with Geller, the convention features AN anti-Islam activist who goes by the name “Bill Warner.” “Warner” (Bill French) and Geller are identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as members of the “anti-Muslim inner circle.” “We thank Senator Rubio and Governor Scott for avoiding the false perception that they would in any way legitimize anti-Muslim hatred by appearing at an event featuring hard-core Islamophobes,” said CAIR-Tampa Executive Director Hassan Shibly.

The Tea Party Convention will take place at the Volusia County Ocean Center Nov. 4-6. According to the convention’s website, sponsors of the event include Freedom Works, the Heritage Foundation, Americans for Prosperity, Craig Miller’s U.S. Senate Campaign and the Oath Keepers.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Nashville hotel has canceled a conference by the Sharia Awareness Action Network, saying it was concerned the speakers include “extremists” with a history of contentious events, (Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer).

The “Preserving Freedom Conference” had been scheduled for Nov. 11 at the Hutton Hotel near downtown. The hotel in a statement Monday said it has to be “mindful of the safety, security and peace of mind of its guests.”

The hotel cited reports by the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center about speakers Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer of the group Stop Islamization of America, adding that they have “a history of controversy and contention surrounding their appearances.”

U.S. Attorney’s Office October 28, 2011 TAMPA, FL—United States Attorney Robert E. O’Neill announces the recovery of an estimated 6,700 kilograms of cocaine from a submerged drug smuggling vessel in the Caribbean Sea.

The vessel, a self-propelled semi-submersible vessel, or SPSS, was interdicted by the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) MOHAWK on September 30, 2011, in international waters of the Caribbean some 110 miles off of the coast of Honduras. The vessel sank during the interdiction, and USCGC MOHAWK detained the four crew members, who were later transferred to Tampa for prosecution (Pinellas County Jail).

Shortly after the interdiction, a multi-agency effort began to recover the suspected drug cargo of the sunken SPSS. This effort included the deployment of the FBI Laboratory’s Technical Dive Team, located in Quantico, Virginia, which conducted dive operations at the site of the submerged vessel from USCGC CYPRESS. These operations yielded evidence including packages of cocaine totaling an estimated 6,700 kilograms from the SPSS.

Today, this evidence arrived at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg aboard USCGC CYPRESS, where it will be transferred to the custody of investigators of the Panama Express Strike Force. The crew of the SPSS (Jorge Colomer, 47, of Honduras; Guilforth Romero, 24, of Honduras; Manuel Cuero, 30, of Colombia; and Marcos Salazar, 30, of Colombia, all of these goons are in the Pinellas County Jail) have been indicted by a federal grand jury in the Middle District of Florida for violation of the Drug Trafficking Vessel Interdiction Act of 2008 and are being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa. If convicted, each defendant faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison.

A similar recovery operation earlier this year yielded over 6,000 kilograms of cocaine from an interdicted SPSS that also sank in the Caribbean. The crew of that vessel is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa. The CGC Sherman, a 378-foot high-endurance cutter out of Alameda, Calif., was on patrol 300 miles off the coast of Costa Rica when a crewmember spotted a lookout standing atop the self-propelled semi-submersible vessel approximately half a mile away. As the crew of the Sherman sprang into action, three more men appeared on top of the drug vessel in life jackets just before the vessel sank beneath them.

An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed a violation of the federal criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

This case is being investigated by OCDETF’s Panama Express Strike Force, comprised of agents and analysts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, United States Coast Guard Investigative Service, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, and Joint Interagency Task Force South. It will be prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Austin Shutt.
